Great time in Frostburg

I had a great time on Tuesday in Frostburg, Md., talking mostly about Summer of '68 but also reading from Curveball and even discussing Steve Dalkowski of High Heat fame. The acoustics at the Lyric Theatre, right there on Main Street in Frostburg, were outstanding and the crowd was fantastic. Thanks to Gerry LaFemina  Read More

Mr. Holland's Opus

A few summers ago, when I was in Texas researching High Heat, I spoke with Derek Holland about what it was like to have Nolan Ryan as the president of the ballclub he pitched for. What kind of influence did Ryan have, if any?

"We talk a fair amount," said Holland, who was struggling  Read More

Gillick in Hall

Great to see Pat Gillick reach the Baseball Hall of Fame. He was once roommates with Steve Dalkowski and was a great source for High Heat.
Also, Marvin Miller should have gotten in and great to see my friend Davey Concepcion in the running.

Price rolls on

I recently finished the Afterword for the tradepaper edition of High Heat, which will be out in February 2011. Here's what I wrote about the Rays' David Price, who led the Tampa Bay Rays to a playoff berth last night.
"Every time I saw Price pitch during the 2010 season, I was tempted to say that  Read More

On the road

No rest for the wicked. The first week of promoting High Heat opened with a reading at the Barnes & Noble in Alexandria. The manager there is my friend Brighid Moret and it was a fun evening.
From there, it was on to the Virginia Festival of the Book, where I joined Roland Lazenby (author  Read More

On Chrysalis Editorial Blog

My friend Herta Feely was asking about the writing of High Heat. How I changed the working outline after the book contract was signed.
Read about it in the posting I did for Herta's new blog at Chrysalis Editorial -- http://chrysaliseditorial.com/blog/2010/03/our-first-guest-author-tim-wendel/
